What The Different Options Are Out There….
….How To Get The Support You Need!
From: Mandi Davies
Dear: Fellow Parent(s)
As with other parents in this situation you’re kind of left on your own to trust what ever your doctor recommends that you do. As a result most of us are left with these questions:
Does my doctor know what they’re talking about, have they dealt with my specific scenario before?
Should I be using a cream, will this really get rid of it? Is there anything I should be concerned about with using it?
Who to go to for emotional support, who will really truly understand the situation and offer us what we need as parents?
Are there any other options for me, anything that I can be doing other than medicine / lotion?
What solution is really going to work and be right for my son or daughter?
The bottom line with all of this, every expert has an opinion, everyone of them feels that they’re right, and now we’re left with figuring out what’s actually right for our child…
I had way too many sleepless nights as a result!
My name is Mandi, my son started having rashes show up on his body just after he was 3 months old. It started on the back of his head, moved to the his joints and then big time on his face. In the next 3 and a half years, we sat down with around half a dozen or so different ‘ doctors ‘ per say, dermtalogists, general practioners and pretty much, although they had a different spin on the situation, the only solution that they had for us was to use a cortozone cream (which it’s main ingredient is a steroid). For us this just wasn’t okay so we kept looking for different alterntatives.
Along the way though, our son still had the problem, itched like crazy, was uncomfortable, took forever to go to sleep and although he was a ‘ happy kid’, there were many times where the stress level was through the roof. In all of this, there were very very few family members and friends that agreed with what they were doing cause they couldn’t stand seeing our son so uncomfortable. This made our circle for support extremely small, again, we were all alone. Although this was the case, the priority was with what was going to be right for our son, long-term and that’s what we stuck with.
Although our son is not completely rid of his eczema, 99% of it is gone and he only has small flair ups now and again:
It’s rare now for us to see him flare up. Sometimes in the change of seasons we’ll see a little bit in his knee joints or possibly elbow joints but very minimal. Instead of him scratching like a mad man, it’s brief and subsides very quickly.
We still have to monitor certain clothing and if he’s in a very dusty home or with pets (has pet allergies as well) then it may get flared up but usually it’s because of the allergy and not so much the eczema.
Whenever we ran into another parent that had an excema child challenge, they all said the same thing, I’m just using cortozone cream, it’s all the doctors had for me
All the parents got the same information:
The only thing to do is to use this cream
Didn’t go into any detail with what was going on, it’s just a skin irritation basically
Hopefully one day they will grow out of it
After this, everyone was left not knowing who to turn to, what to do and at this point there’s been no support offered for all the emotions that are going on with it all. We realized that since we’ve come such a long way since the beginning, worked through many things with the family / friends that other parents could benefit from knowing what worked / didn’t work for us.
When we sat down with the head dermatologist at our children’s hospital and they said…
… “… we don’t know what the root cause of eczema is….”
I knew there was a big problem!
Now getting a straight answer when we asked “ What is causing this eczema?” was hard enough, but when we got the answer it was a big pill to swallow. What she did say it’s that they knew it came from the same place as all the other allergies but how does that help in this case.
The questions that ran through our mind and I’m sure either a couple if not all ran / are running through yours as well:
How should we deal with this problem?
What is actually going to get rid of it?
Is this just ‘ masking ‘ the problem to getting rid of the itching all we want?
Since there are many different allergies, is there not then many different solutions?
Which solution is right for my child then?
Should I actually believe them when they say " they’ll most likely grow out of it " ?
Although 99% of the time cortozone cream is recommended by Doctors, there are many other options to try, but which is really going to be the one that helps my child?
The question that so many parents ask is what kind of cream / lotion should I be using to help get rid on the itch and hopefully get rid of the problem.
Cortozone is not always going to be the one that’s going to work so now parents are left...
Looking for anyone else that has some success or something different and try that
Sometimes there’s an allergic / skin reaction to a lotion so now there’s an additional challenge to deal with
With some lotions, they’re actually very expensive and you’ll typically find out after a small amount where it works so it not only makes it very expensive but unsure whether to try something else or not
Time is usually the biggest challenge with this because it’s not knowing how long to use something before it’s even known if it’s helping or not
All of this leaves a lot of frustration with whether to stick with something, go with another type or then go to another person to see if there’s something that some else or us have missed.
To say that dealing with eczema in children is an emotional strain
in many circumstances is an understatement…
…Unfortunately for a lot of parents, there’s no real support being offered
Obviously every situation is different for the parent depending on the severity of the child’s eczema but when taking into account all different scenario’s, the same similiarities are there:
Doctors really don’t understand what it’s like mentally, they just see a problem with the skin
There really aren’t any support groups for parents going through it
Unless friends / family have gone through it, they’ll really never understand
Most support is just on the ‘ actual problem ‘ rather than everything else surrounding it
What the big problem with this medical situation is that it affects way more than the child’s skin:
Some kids will be frustrated so affecting them in the way of mood swings
Kids can take longer going to bed causing more of a strain on time
Kids are uncomfortable which means more effort and time needs to be put in to keep them busy
All of this really just touches the surface of what’s going on and what results is that the parent(s) end up being more stressed, drained of energy, less patient and really just wanting to have it go away quickly.
Unfortunately there are many other factors that affect kids excema that are out of our control and to determine them for each specific child is like trying to find a needle in a haystack!
If it wasn’t bad enough it’s not just about the excema itself but unfortunately there are many other sources that can help it spread, or even get it worse. Determining what these sources are for our individual child is hard and time consuming and sometimes, just not completely possible.
It can include things like:
Our environment – dust, grass, trees, plants, polins, sprays, chemical, pesticides, perfume etc.
Soap can effect them as well – laundry soap, dish soap, shampoo etc…
Certain material can effect them as well so clothes themselves can be a problem
Foods can definitely have an impact on what happens with the skin
For many kids, there is something that the body is missing so it’s finding out what that is!
If only someone was there to give us some guidance when we felt lost, alone with not knowing what to do, maybe things wouldn’t have been as stressful!
I know that my husband and I felt like we were 2 lost soles dealing with our child and just plodding through all the endless amounts of recommendations / suggestions we got from everyone and trying to determine what’s really best. If we had someone that could actually relate to what we were going through and necessarily offer support but give us concrete suggestions on what to and what everything means, I know we could have walked through things a lot easier without so much of a guessing game.
After 3 years of trying natural solutions, we finally found one that had our son’s eczema gone in a matter of weeks…
…we’re not suggesting at any moment that it’s what’s going to work for your son or daughter though.
For us we decided to find a ‘ natural solution ‘ that would kind of find the problem and fix it. We though of this like the body needing red & white blood cells. Although I’m no doctor, our bodies need both to survive. Well what if there weren’t enough of either of one of them, we wouldn’t be well and would need to add whatever is missing so that we were balanced again.
This is what we realized was the case for our son, his body was missing or didn’t have enough of something, we just didn’t know what it was. It took a couple of years of trying many many different solutions where we finally found a homeopathic remedy that within a matter of weeks, had about 99% of it gone!
Our son’s case was so unique and challenging that our Homeopathic doctor Neil Tessler, who is a Diplomate of the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians and is also an editor of an International Journal of Professional Homeopathic Practice, he wrote an article about his case so that other physicians can learn from it. We know for sure that this is most likely not the solution for your situation, we heard many many times how ‘ this worked for so and so, you should try it’, and in some cases we did, but did not work. Every child is unique, some cases are very easy where as others, like our son, it’s very severe and unique.
I don’t have " The Treatment " to offer, but, can provide you what we found with all of our research / trying of different products…
….plus the tips and tricks we used to get us through the "every day" events
There is just so much that we felt we were missing when going through all the challenges we faced with our son. We really didn’t want any other parent to go without knowing what we know so that you had more tools and real life experience to build from and work with.
That’s we put our story in an e-book "Dealing with a child’s severe case of eczema – A parents perspective". We know as a result you’ll be able to benefit from mistakes we made, how we made things work plus all the research we did on so many different treatment alternative.
Here’s a snapshot of what we would have loved to have when we 1st had to deal with the situation but want to make sure you do have:
What are the options based on ‘ western medicine ‘, how do they work and are there any side effects?
What are the main ‘ alternative options ‘ to the basic lotions doctors recommend, how do they work and are there any side effects so to decrease the discomfort of your child
What questions should you be asking your doctor and how to go about asking them so that you get the answers that are completely specific to your situation
How to deal with family and friends so that you are supported through the process and not feeling ‘ on your own’ PLUS how to communicate with strangers who ‘ have the answer ‘.
What are the typical food irritants and what you can do to work around those foods so that your son / daughter is both not left our and is able to eat healthy.
Tricks to having them go to sleep, keeping them as comfortable as they can without making their eczema worse as well
What are concerned ‘ outside irritants ‘, how to be proactive with it so that it does not cause unwanted flare ups
Ways to keep them entertained or distracted long enough to keep them from scratching away
Big one here, what to do to keep your stress at a minimum so that you have the energy to effectively, calmly deal with your son or daughter!
Knowing more about what eczema treatment options are available will allow you to make more informed decisions on what you may use for your child.
Although in this case, for some parents it may be harder to know that there are many different options out there as now there’ll be decisions to be made, you’ll at least have more of an opportunity to put the health of your child more so in your hands.
With all the treatments, it will be important for you to know:
What the typical ‘ medical doctor ‘ will recommend and what any potential side effects are so that you can decide for yourself it it’s worth the risk of it, if there is any at all
Of course there are many regular ‘ home products ‘ that can be used as well to help with the itching and swelling, so we’ll go through effective ways to use these.
There are many different natural lotions available that all contain different kinds of ingredients. Some ingredients can be more reactive to kids than others so knowing what to look out for can decrease the possibilities of irritation.
There are also different oils out there that can be used as well but the same with lotions, some may have a negative impact rather than positive
Naturopathic remedies can be very effective to treat it but there are certain aspects that are more beneficial to apply to other areas and you have to deal with someone who has experience in this scenario. Knowing about the homeopathic eczema remedies and what to be looking for in a doctor, will be key
Homeopathic remedies can in some cases take longer to see effects but can be the most effective. There are so many to take advantage of but there are certain things you can do to help your doctor out which could speed up the process, I’ll go through these.
Foods can make the skin rashes worse but on the other hand, eating the right foods can help decrease the reaction
For some kids there are more extremes when it comes to food. For our son, the foods he ate had a huge impact on his rashes so we had to really limit the things that he ate. For every situation unfortunately it will be different and something that you’ll have to test yourself.
How I know I can help you when it comes to foods they eat is:
To cover what the ‘ common foods ‘ are that have a negative effect on the rashes so that you can avoid them
Give you some tips on how to go about determining if your child has a sensitivity to the food or not
Ideas on how to approach meal planning so that they are being provided with all the nutrients they need but not being left out when it comes to eating things that they’d like
Also to provide you with some alternatives that you can use that will fill the void of what foods will have to be taken out of the diet
I’ll also go over some of the ways that I communicated with my son that made the whole ‘understanding’ easier and so that they will actually eat what’s put in front of them
"Outside Irritants" as they’re labeled, includes things like environment, material, chemicals etc. can definitely cause the skin to flare up more…
…knowing what they are is at least the 1st step to decreasing the possibility of a reaction!
We of course can’t avoid every little thing as some irritants are out of control. What we can do as parents though is firstly be aware of what other outside sources can irritate the skin and then from there, do our best to put measures in place to keep as much of it away from our child as we can.
General ‘ allergic ‘ kind of environmental things like dust, grass, polen and even perfume can cause irritation so I’ll cover the list as well as some things to do to combat it
Clothing material can also irritate the skin significantly for some kids so knowing what they are will help you avoid them but suggestions on what else to do if they just ‘ have to wear them ‘ too.
Chemicals unfortunately are in everything including laundry detergent, dish soap, bar soap as well as other cleaning supplies which can very much give the kids even more discomfort. There are alternatives that can be used to keep this from happening
A good night’s sleep is crucial to helping the children’s body have enough energy to help heal themselves, them getting this rest and going to sleep comfortably is a whole other challenge.
Any parent you talk to that has a child for sure under the age of 5 knows that on more occasions than not, getting the kids to bed and go to sleep right away (on time) can be a challenge.
Now with parents that have to deal with an uncomfortable itchy child that all they want to do is scratch, this is a whole other story.
For us it was for a long time, a big battle, not only to him to go to sleep but for him to do so without making all is inflamed areas to get way worse in a matter of minutes.
Along the way, although not fool proof, we found some good ways to deal with the sleep issues:
What kind of clothes / sleeping products you can take advantage of to keep them away from their skin
How to communicate with them so that their more aware of the situation and at times, more cooperative
Strategies to get them to sleep quicker, limiting the time that they may be uncomfortable and or scratching at their scabs
How to deal with your emotions around getting them to sleep, this is a really big one as it has a very big impact on the whole process
What are some safe natural products that you can give them to help them sleep through the night
At all times during the day, the kids can feel uncomfortable so wanting to scratch, not only keeping them entertained is important…
…but being able to shift their focus to something else, quickly and without a fit, this is all about technique!
Keeping kids busy is the key to keeping any of them out of trouble sort of speak. Depending on the level of skin irritation, this is almost an absolute must when we’re dealing with a child that has eczema. For our son it took us looking away for 2 minutes and if he wasn’t totally busy, we would find him scratching away at one part of his body or another. Now he would do some significant damage in a short time frame so we really needed to be on him when it came to being occupied.
So here are the general focuses that we had that to keep him focused on other things:
Made sure that we had him do activities that kept him moving as this will cause him not to think feel the itchiness
Made sure that if he was alone, he was as comfortable as we could. I’ll go through what we did with this, to do with sitting area, toys etc. although every child will be unique with what will work for them
We utilized food as a distraction, not candy or sweets as that’s not something that we wanted to create a habit for, but, we did utilize some methods to focus on different foods which would keep his thoughts on that instead of the itch
Being able to shift his attention quickly was another technique, one that we kept having to adjust from time to time. We’ll go through what we did and thought behind it so that you can cater it to your child’s ‘ hot buttons’ sort of speak
Although you can do your research to be prepared to meet with any kind of doctor, the bottom line is that you are going to have to utilize their education and experience to help your child…
…knowing what to research and questions to ask, now that’s the key!
As a parent I would like nothing more to diagnose and prescribe what I’m going to give to me child to help them get rid of the skin rashes and itchiness. The reality is that I’ve not gone to years of school, attended hundreds of seminars or worked with countless other patients to know what they know. That being said, as a parent we have the right and the duty to have enough information so that we can ask knowledgeable questions to get more specific answers related to our situation.
This is why I’m going to empower you and save you time by covering what questions to ask your doctor and why you’re asking them:
You’ll know what kind of questions to ask to do with hereditary and what causes that could have to do with the skin
Go over aspects to do with the different treatment options available and what the pro’s & con’s can be
Support is something that doctors can have an impact as well so knowing what & when to ask will be important
How to ask for alternative solutions as well, this is not always an easy conversation to be had with some doctors
For many parents dealing with eczema in children can be very stressful, and it’s even more difficult if you don’t have support, knowing how or what to ask for can be hard at times
Luckily for some parents, there’s an abundance of support out there that will give you what you need. Unfortunately for a lot of parents though, there’s support but not what is ACTUALLY needed.
Without the support of others, where it be family, friends or both, not only will you be suffering but your child and their healing can be affected too.
It’s crucial that you get support:
First thing is to go over how to look at your situation to determine what you actually need for support. As we found, our situation was unique to everyone else.
Will relate what we did / did not do when it comes to asking for support so that you can take from it on how to go to your friends and family and get what you need
Why you need and deserve the support. Sometimes it can be easier to ‘ suck it up’ and not ask but this is really going to affect your child in the end so knowing exactly what the outcomes as we found out, will be important
Our e-book "Dealing with a child’s severe case of eczema – A parents perspective" is going to cover everything you need to know as a parent dealing with your child’s skin disease and do it through our story.
In all fairness, putting a value to it is really almost impossible, but if we were to …
Well before that, this is really not about the money. Sure, more money is always good and if push comes to shove, I would rather get paid for putting time and effort into a project than getting nothing. I’m sure for most of us it’s the same. I’ll be honest, I have put a lot of time into creating the e-book and put countless hours into researching, testing and of course dealing with my son that resulted in this e-book in the first place.
My main goal is to give other parents in a similar or same situation as us, some tools, guidance and support from someone that’s gone through it all (and at an extreme level that I hope no-one else has to deal with). This information you will not find anywhere else. I’m not wanting you to buy any specific product, see any kind of doctor at all. I’m going to go over all possibilities to you. I want you to have all the information at your fingertips.
When I took a look at what I should sell the e-book for I wanted:
To make sure that all my costs were taken care
That I make a little something so that I would be able to allocate the time to build and provide more resources
To show you that there is value in it and you’re not getting a 10 page little book
Something that was affordable enough for a family that’s on a budget!
With all this considered I felt that $24.95 was a fair price to ask for completely invaluable information in helping your child’s challenge with excema be over as quickly, comfortably and through the healthiest way possible
I really truly know that this information will be very helpful to you. This e-book can be in your email box within a couple of minutes so that you can start reading it tonight and start making changes as quick as tomorrow! This book is absolutely for both you and your child so that you can work together in fighting this skin disease and making it go away as fast, easily as well as speeding the recovery time up as well.
I don’t want to take your money from you unless you found it valuable so I’m offering you a lifetime guarantee on the e-book…
… I’ll explain why
I know how long it took us to find out what worked for our son, it certainly didn’t happen in a couple of month period and we have many different situations come up throughout our dealings that we needed help on.
As this is the case, some of what I’m going to cover in the book, you may not need to utilize yet, it may not be for a few months. I know though that at some point most of what I’m going to cover will come up in one form or another.
With all this, if you go through and your son / daughter is rid of the eczema and you didn’t utilize anything in this book to help you through the situation, you can just email me and I’ll refund your money, no questions asked.
I hope with this guarantee you see that it’s about helping you, it took me quite a bit to work through all of what needed to be done to reduce my stress but it wasn’t until the end that I had more of a system down. I want you to have this at the beginning.
